Image Desciption: A Pink Lotus Flower with green leaves
Having a learning disability is like a lotus flower. The durable flower comes in a wide variety of colors and can withstand many conditions. People marvel at the beauty of this flower, but do not realize the process it takes to bloom.
Lotus flowers come in a wide array of colors. They come in pink, yellow, red, blue, and purple shades. Learning disabilites also come in a variety of forms. Some create difficulties with reading and writing. Other types can create problems with math and visual perception. Learning Disabilites can also affect how a person hears or speaks language. People can have one or more types of them. Each person with one, experinces it differently, even if they have the same type. My learning disabiltiy gives me difficulties with math and visual perception. I also have difficulty with hand dexterity, which affects my handwriting.
The Lotus flower is a resilient flower that can adapt to many conditions. Some flowers grow in murky waters. I have been in the mud of a disability, buried deep in the frustration of learning and failing. I also felt the extra weight of dirt added to the shame of having limitations.
I have also had an arid season, where no progress poured in. Other times it rained with difficulties and setbacks. It sometimes seems like the flower would never bloom. People cannot see the growth happening. But when the flower least expects it, it begins to bloom. The mud and adverse conditions did not destroy it, but instead strengthened it.
The most difficult seasons of my life have produced the most beautiful blooms! The growth seems stunted, and it feels hopeless, but it happens. I may not like the seasons of mud and the harsh conditions, but I love the flowers that come of it.
Not all lotus flowers are the same, as they come in different colors, but are still flowers. The same with having a learning disability. I share the same diagnosis as many other people, but we all are different. How beautiful it is when we bloom together! Forever, I will have a lotus flower of a disabiltiy. Some will see the beauty of the flower of sucesss and not the difficulties I had to endure. It has made me into the person that I am today
